R.I.P to The Ugly Christmas Sweater

huffpost.com

We’re all (unfortunately) very familiar with the classic ugly sweater donned by many during the holiday season, and we’ve gathered here today to say our solemn goodbyes. If only a top so warm and comfy could be chic!  Looks like our prayers have been answered. This season, brands everywhere from Gucci to Gap are providing just what your winter wardrobe needs – A cozy sweater that’s actually cute! Ranging from plain to prints to all over the color spectrum, there’s sure to be a sweater that swings your strings this season. An Aztec print or Cowl Neck knit sweater paired with classic leggings or tights is guaranteed to turn your holiday sweater look from “ew” to “ooh”.

Now Trending : Ear Cuffs

xelohveee.tumblr.com
As we frantically attempt to finish all of our Christmas shopping before next week, we've noticed a very popular accessory gracing the shelves of all our favorite stores and websites.  Available in a variety of styles, ear cuffs are earrings of 2013.  Whether you have your tragus, cartelege, conch, standard ear lobe piercing or none at all, there is ear jewelry to fulfill your needs.  What we love the most about ear cuffs is that we don't have to worry about them being ripped out of our ears while wading through an uncomfortably crammed dance floor, dodging the swaying arms and legs of those  extremely irritating girls who feel the need to be perched on top of their best guy friend's shoulders.  We suggest searching sites such as Etsy and Wanelo for the best selections.

New Years Day Luciano Tickets

With so much planning for NYE parties, New Years Day can often be forgotten (until this year).  Luciano and friends will be hosting a New Years day party at The Compound in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  So far Luca Bacchetti and local techno talent Sleepy and Boo have been added to the lineup with speculation of more Cadenza acts to be booked. So for those of you who are after hours regulars this party is for you.  Doors open at 4:30AM and the party doesn't stop til' the sun goes down at 5PM.  Dont get stuck with overpriced "day of show" ticket rates, get yours now.  First tier GA is already sold out.

New News Monday

edmnyc.com
Hello Monday! We hope everyone had a great weekend, although the weather was less than desirable. Below are some of the most notable "news" stories to grace the New York City dance music community.  Enjoy!

This morning, Above and Beyond posted a photo on their Facebook page insinuating that they will be hosting a New York show in February 2013.  Seems like all the hard work New York TranceFamily has put into campaigning and social media is beginning to pay off.  Congrats!

For all of you Sci+Tec loving New Yorkers who also feel completely jipped after Dubfire's set at System Nightclub in Long Island City was aprehended by the police, (a mere fifteen minutes into his set), keep your eyes peeled for the release of his new mix CD, A Transmission, on December 14th (digitally on Christmas Eve).

Danny Tenaglia has always been known to freely voice his opinions, both good and bad, which can usually be found on his Facebook page. Last night he posted the status in the picture above after DJing at Aura, a club on Long Island letting us know that "TECHNO is here to stay".  If you were present for Danny Tenaglia and Chris Liebing at Pacha last month and like what you heard or just love relentless drums, make your way over to Glazz Nightclub in Queens this Friday, December 14thTickets

residentadvisor.net

Event of the Week: On Thursday, December 13th at Mehanata Bar in the LES, Caine Novak will be hosting a gritty underground party along with techno and minimal DJ's, Duckhunter, Boji and Alexia.  According to Resident Advisor, for his set this week Novak will be "playing a live set constructed from the soundtrack of "Seventeen Moments of Spring" a Russian 70's cult film noir miniseries based on a spy novel set in 1994 Berlin.  The Portishead-like sound of this score coupled with his carefully constructed custom loops and bass lines will blow your mind". If you're tired of the same old "Thursday Regulars" crowd at every other club in Manhattan like we are you should definitely make it to this refreshingly original and creative event. Tickets

Guilty Pleasure Friday: Matte Top Coat Polish

http://www.target.com/p/essie-nail-care-matte-about-you-top-coat/-/A-13269956
With Christmas fast approaching we cant afford to be splurging this GPF, so we thought we'd keep it simple and feature an item that wont break our already empty bank.  Matte top coats are a great way to create a new look out of nail polish you already own.  I dont think we need to include an instructional on how to use a matte top coat, so all we have to say is its effing great.

Global Drug Survey

mixmag.net

Last week, on November 22, Mixmag launched their 2013 global drug survey online.  This will be the largest survey of global drug use to ever be carried out with an expected response of 50,000 people.  Mixmag has been running this study among clubbers since 1999 and it has continually been referred to by academics, drug organizations, government agencies etc.  The survey is completely anonymous and will be available until the end of December with results being published in the March or April 2013 edition of Mixmag.  Want to participate? Last Minute Thanksgiving Eve Extravaganza

timedream.tumblr.com
It's that time of the year again - Thanksgiving Eve, aka one of the biggest party nights of the year.  For some, this evokes great memories; returning home for the holiday and being able to go out with all your old friends as a group until Thanksgiving Eve 2013.  For others, this night is nothing more than an annoyance, as the less than desirable bridge and tunnel crowds pack our favorite venues to capacity with sky rocketing entrance fees.  Either way, you know damn well you won't be found sitting home on the couch with a glass of wine watching re-runs of "The King of Queens", that's what Sunday through Tuesday nights are for anyway.  Below is a list of below the radar events tonight for all you last minute procrastinators.  Happy Thanksgiving!

1. Guy Gerber, Carl Craig, Shaun Reeves & Kate Simko @ Highline Ballroom [Verboten]

2. Louie Vega & Kevin Hedge @ Cielo
(Free before 11 pm)

3.  Tony Rohr (Drumcode), Keith John, Anthony Velarde & Sonny Kim @ SRB

Detroit Electronic Movement Festival

csoltis.com
Do you love music festivals but are tired of the same neon-clad teeny bopper crowd sucking on lollipops "raging" like there's no tomorrow to the now standard "Top 40" playlist of "EDM"? If your answer is yes, Detroit's Movement Festival is where you should find yourself on Memorial Day Weekend (May 25 - 27).  Beginning in 2000, the Movement Festival has remained a bare to the bones experience focused strictly on the music.  With techno heavy weights such as Chris Liebing, Kevin Saunderson, Carlo Lio, Juan Atkins, Josh Wink, Marco Carola (to name a few) annually saturating the lineup, we can guarantee that the most popular outfit color will be black.  Excited yet?  The best news of all is that this festival is insanely cheap.  Single day tickets are $34, three day passes are $69, and three day VIP passes are a meager $154.  So come get in touch with your gritty, industrial side and join us in the Motor City.  Tickets are now on sale here.

Is Your Favorite The Greatest?

soundisstyle.com
Mixmag knows that everyone has that one track they listen to on repeat while relentlessly trying to make it their best friend's favorite song as well.  Until December 21st, Mixmag is asking you turn that passion into a vote by going to their website and entering what you believe to be the "Greatest Dance Track of All Time".  Voters can choose between 300 nominated songs from all different sub genres of dance music with release dates ranging from 1977-2012.  Dont worry, if that's not a broad enough selection for you, you even have the option of manually entering your track of choice.  The winner will be announced January 17th in the February edition of Mixmag

Election Day at Urban Outfitters

urbanoutfitters.com
Today is the day that welcomes endless facebook status rants, some clever, but mostly not, meme's being posted left and right (no pun intended), and an overwhelming amount of political hashtags on twitter.  We agree that everyone should go out and vote. Not only is your right, the act of voting will also  grant you with a perk at one of our favorite stores, Urban Outfitters.  According to the flier above which is posted on their website, Urban will take 20% off your total purchase for today only, once you present proof that you have already visited the polls.  Good thing our closest Urban is open till 11 pm, although the lines at election centers won't mirror those at the gas pump, we know that this is a critical election for Americans.

Sandy Essential: Pleather Pants

http://breakfastatyurmans.tumblr.com/
As our first post Sandy post, we though it would be appropriate to write about the one piece of clothing that has been a wardrobe essential for us this past week.  If you're thinking anything along the lines of raincoat, gloves or knit sweaters, you're far off.  Having pleather pants has been a gamechanger in the quality of day and night outfits we were able to create with the few pieces of clothing we grabbed before fleeing our powerless apt.  Pairing these pants with a plain black tee and boots is a comfortable and fashionable daywear look, while adding a lace shirt and heels dresses up the outfit for a night out.  Being so versatile, pleather pants are definitely a closet staple.

Halloween falling on a Wednesday is both a blessing and a curse.  Sure it's extremely inconvenient for those who have "real" jobs but hey what about the rest of us who are just trying to party?  Tomorrow marks the beginning of an epic ten day bender for New York City residents, and in order to justify this madness, we are conveniently putting the blame on Halloween.  We've compiled a list of the hottest events coming our way and tried our best to include all ticket links.  Be warned kids, this is not amateur hour so please do us a favor and leave your neon at home.

Now Trending : Peplum Tops

songofstyle.blospot.com
Increasing in popularity during the Spring 2012 season, peplum tops are the perfect way to add curves and a waistline to any casual yet boring jeans and a t-shirt look.  In the spring we saw peplum skirts and tops covered in bright colors and patterns, and now for the fall/winter season we have suggested some more weather appropriate options to the left.  Kim Kardashian has been spotted numerous times in peplum donned attire, and although we absolutely cannot stand her, we seriously envy her wardrobe.
Check websites such as Topshop and H&M for more styles.

American Apparel Halloween Costume Contest

source: http://fashionindie.com/fck-ups-american-apparel-halloween-costumes/
Calling all women, men, kids, groups and pets.  Its that time of year, American Apparel is holding their annual Halloween Costume contest.  Submit a picture of your costume in any of the previously listed categories for a chance to win a $500 gift card to American Apparel. Two runners up in each category will receive $100. Although its going to be so easy to buy a spandex leotard and tutu from AA and submit a picture dressed as Black Swan, resist the urge because contestants have been creative this year.  Even though you're not required to create these costumes with AA clothing we can't help but think it wouldn't hurt.  Our favorite submission so far is  trolls a la American Apparel.  The contest runs until November 3rd so if you haven't thought of a genius costume and are planning on dressing as a standard hot "insert animal name here" you still have time to get the creative juices flowing.

Find out more contest details and submit your photo here.  Good luck Electrolettes <3

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival [BEMF]

bemf.meanproductions.com
In a few weeks on November 9th and 10th the 5th annual Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival will take place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Although traveling to Brooklyn may seem like a hike to some New Yorkers who refuse to leave Manhattan, we think this event will be well worth the $5.00 round trip traveling fees.  BEMF showcases upcoming DJs/producers from New York City and the greater metropolitan area, in addition to international talent.  Finally, local artists will be exhibiting their pieces and food/drinks from local Brooklyn restaurants will be available in a designated food truck lot.  A two day festival pass is priced at $65 and single day tickets are $35.  Check their website, bemf.meanredproductions.com, for more information regarding lineup and location.

DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll Top Ten Leaked

According to edmtunes.com, the top ten artists in DJ Mag's controversial Top 100 DJs poll have been leaked.  The official announcement is set to take place tonight with award ceremonies at ADE and Ministry of Sound in London, where the winner will also spin alongside Markus Schulz, Thomas Gold, Orjan Nilsen and Sean Tyas (a very trance-y lineup leads us to believe that the leaked winners are accurate!). Furthermore, for the first time ever, DJ Mag will be hosting U.S. parties with the #1 DJ at Mansion in Miami on October 24th, Lavo in New York on October 25th, Marquee in Vegas on October 27th and one last show in Los Angeles on October 28th.  We could only be so lucky to have Armin spin at Lavo next week, especially following the asot600nyc announcement yesterday.  Keep you fingers crossed New York trance family!

Amsterdam Dance Event 2012

ADE has already kicked off to an impressive start.  Today, we had the pleasure of basking in some serious techno with the Drumcode Studio Sessions consisting of Joel Mull, Joseph Capriati, Adam Beyer and Alan Fitzpatrick on be-at.tv.  Tomorrow, October 19th, Chris Liebing will host ADE's CLR event.  If you claim to love drums, "dirty beats" and an aggressive bpm count then you must tune in to hear Monoloc, Tommy Four Seven and Drumcell among others beginning at 4pm EST.

Now Trending: Spiked Leather

buy spiked leather jacket here

We've all seen studded leather on shoes and on jackets but this Fall, spikes are the new studs.  No piece of clothing is safe from these dangerous fashion weapons.  Flats, spandex and jackets are just a few of the articles of clothing that spikes have been adorning recently.  We love this trend because no longer do we have to deal with drunk club goers stumbling backwards onto our feet, put on any of these three spiked items and you automatically have your own invisible bubble of personal space.

Fall Shoes We Love

Fall is always a confusing time for the fashion world. One day it's sunny and 65 degrees, the next it's a gloomy 55 degrees, if you're lucky.  In order to help others cope with the fickle weather, we decided to dedicate a post to our favorite multi-purpose shoe: Minnetonkas.  If you live under a rock and don't already know, Minnetonkas come in a variety of styles ranging from slippers and moccasins to boots and slippers. From plenty of previous experience, we can tell you it's better to buy Minnetonkas so they're snug on your foot because they tend to stretch just like Uggs.  Below are our favorite designs with complementing attire suggestions.

Skinny jeans & an off the shoulder crop top for a casual lunch date

Moccasins go perfectly with leggings and an oversized sweater for those hungover Saturday morning walks Starbucks

Spice up a plain short black dress with black opaque tights

Finally, not only are Minnetonkas versatile, they are also the perfect trendy yet comfortable shoe for a long night of dancing, whether you are in a dark smoky Brooklyn warehouse or a packed mainstream venue.  Check Zappos or Nordstrom for available designs.

Ultra Music Festival 2013

In March of 2013 Ultra Music Festiaval will celebrate its 15th anniversary.  In honor of this milestone, for the first time ever the festival will take place on two consecutive weekends, March 15-17 and March 22-24.  Conveniently, the Winter Music Conference also falls between these two weekends making Miami an easy option for an end of the winter getaway.  Ultra tickets go on sale Wednesday, October 17th at http://www.ultramusicfestival.com/tickets/ , and we thank the festival for allowing only one ticket allowed per credit card transaction.  StubHub has really become the bane of our existences.

Andy Warhol for NARS

http://www.sephora.com/nars-andy-warhol-collection?om_mmc=aff-linkshare-redirect-sCrAKfDMAfQ
NARS has released a special edition collection, the Andy Warhol set.  Being huge fans of Warhol we knew we had to check out what this line has to offer.  Flower shaped eye shadow pallets and mini lipglosses that come in a chic NARS version of the famous Campbells Soup Can are just a few of the items that make up this artsy collection. If you're one of our readers that tends to get FOMO we recommend getting your AW items ASAP because its only a matter of time before the collection sells out.  Before you shop the collection, we'll leave you with a famous Warhol quote,

"I had a lot of dates but I decided to stay home and dye my eyebrows."

Maybe NARS should have thought to create a Warhol eyebrow pencil.

Halloween at Sensation

As if it wasn't going to be hard enough in October to find a new all white outfit to wear to Sensation, now we have to factor in that the event is being held on the weekend before the 31st, making it an unofficial Halloween party for some.  We did some in depth field research by conducting a survey to determine the most popular bianco get-ups.

Official Electric Zoo After Movie & Early Bird Passes

madeevent.com
On Friday, Made Event released the official Electric Zoo Festival after-movie to the public ...   as if we weren't already depressed enough from watching a plethora of shaky videos uploaded on Youtube.  Take a look below and see if you or any of your friends made the cut.

Now we know it's hard to believe but early bird tickets for Electric Zoo 2013 will go on sale this Thursday at 1 pm EDT.  Only three day general admission tickets will be available for purchase at this time, excluding single day and VIP passes; then again who goes to a festival for only one day.  Noobs.

P.S. Don't forget to vote for who you would like to see on the Electric Zoo 2013 lineup.  If you weren't satisfied with this year's collection of artists, cough cough way too much electro/dubstep cough, this is your chance to influence next years pickings.

Designer Interview: Atsushi Nakashima

Atsushi Nakashima
We sat down with avant garde designer Atsushi Nakashima to speak about his upcoming fashion line.  Nakashima has an extensive history in the fashion world and is ready to leave his mark on US fashion.  He worked as Jean Paul Gaultiers assistant and had a major role in desiging a number of JPG's iconic bags.  He was Diffusions head desiginer for seven years and now he has set out to bring his edgy designs to runways near you.  We love the fact that his pieces are unconventional and fashion-forward but havent crossed the line into Lady Gaga meat territory.   Below are outfits from his debut collection which is scheduled to be released this October.

E:   What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
AN: Jeans and pants

E: Who is one of your all time favorite designers?
AN: Jean Paul Gaultier

E: Whats your favorite material to use right now?
AN:  If I had to pick a material I enjoy using recently it would be materials with a shiny, glossy look. I also like to include lots of seams in my work.

E:  We see your debut collection is all female.  Is a mens collection something you see in your future?
AN: Yes, definitely.  For my first US collection I wanted to focus on creating a really strong female line.

E: What is the biggest difference you see between Japanese and US fashion?
AN: Japanese fashion tends to have more of a fluidity and consist of long designs using one piece of material, while European fashion tend to be made up of multiple pieces.

E: Whats your inspiration?
AN: I love to draw.  Before I started designing I drew and my drawings are a major source for my collections.  I get a lot of inspiration from the natural world.  I try to transfer something I see in real life into a clothing design.  I like to make pieces look as natural as possible.

2012 DJ Award Winners

Last night, the 2012 DJ Awards took place in none other than the mecca of dance music, also famously known as Ibiza.  The DJ Awards has been an annual event since its creation in 1998 where the winners are voted on by the public (so if you're unhappy that your favorite artist didn't win, look out for social media campaigns during next summer for the 2013 awards).  As to be expected, the "award" that winners take home is not your conventional mini gold statue.  Rather, it is a piece of green kryptonite, and according to djawards.com, "The word kryptonite embodies Crypto (the code and mystery of life) and Nite (the nightlife and its culture).  This draws together the sense of adventure and surprise that lies ahead as the sun begins to set and the children of the night spring to life".  Below we have listed the winners from each sub-genre of electronic music in bold, with the nominees following. We couldn't help but chuckle when we saw Tietso listed under the "electro house" category. Old Tiesto > New Tiesto

Swedish House Mafia "One Last Tour" Dates

Although we were already convinced Swedish House Mafia had broken up, this morning they released the dates and locations of their last shows spanning from November until October.  Us lucky New Yorkers have a chance to see them twice, at Madison Square Garden on March 1st in addition to the brand new Barclays Center on March 2. Tickets are on sale Friday, September 28th at noon.  Check below to see if this historic threesome is coming to a city near you.
