Ode to Alexander McQueen: 50,000 Gummy Bears Later

We recently wrote a post on Fashion/Music/Arts mag Twelv Magazine and listed one of our top reasons to pick up the mag as being able to see this awesome gummy bear dress.  Upon further reading the article and finding out how the dress was actually created we were blown away and a little hungry.  This dress was inspired by the late Alexander McQueens work (below) and was transformed from a winged gown to an edible art  installation. Why do we call it an art installation? The gown itself weighs 220 pounds and requires three people to move.  The dress was made with 50,000 gummy bears that were glued on one by one by hand (and we thought making kandi was tedious).

LibraNINE opens for Ken Loi & Serge Devant : July 4th

Up and coming NY DJ LibraNINE has had an eventful start to summer to say the least.  After DJing at many NYC hotspots including Marquee, Santos Party House, Ajna, Hudson Terrace and W.I.P(RIP an Electrolette fav),  he was offered residency at Greenhouse.  Sadly, we know how this story ends.  Chris Brown and Drake left a hurricane of destruction and distraught EDM fans when they got into their infamous bottle brawl and managed to get Greenhouse and adjacent underground club W.I.P shut down.  However, it didn't take long for LibraNINE to bounce back with considerably his biggest show yet.  On July 4th at Pier 92, LibraNINE will be opening up for EDM talent such as the EC Twins, Ken Loi and Serge Devant.  We cant help but think that beats, sun and a rooftop beach party is the perfect way to spend July4th.  Find your tickets for this event here.

We cant get enough of LibraNINE's upbeat and eclectic mixes.  Thankfully for us, he puts out a monthly soundcloud: LibraNINE Soundcloud

PS: Stay tuned for more info, DJ LibraNINE plans to release an EP in October :)

Crochet Bathing Suits: Summer Suits We Love

Tired of attending summer pool parties only to realize that you have on the same Victoria's Secret bathing suit as the girl at the bar.. and the girl on her cell phone.. and the girl in the pool.  For your next party switch up and get a sheer crochet one piece.  Our favorite, the "Penelope" as show below is by Robin Piccone and can be bought at Nordstroms here.  While the Penelope is twice the amount of a VS bathing suit you can rest assured that you'll stand out among the throngs of VS clones at your next pool party.

Steve Aoki Rider Controversy

Yesterday afternoon Steve Aokis Rider for one of his recent shows was leaked onto the internet and the publics response has been overwhelming.  Many feel that this Dim Mak records DJ has unreasonable requests and unnecessary items on the list like a directors chair, 6 pairs of socks and an 1/8 ounce of local grass.  Seeing Aoki rage on stage, often times throwing himself into the crowd, creating mosh pits and bathing girls with sheets of cake, most would not expect his demands to be so specific and at times excessive(4 Odwalla smoothie drinks).  However, we cant help but think that Aoki just had the bad luck of having some dbag on his team secretly muploading his requirements to the net and if we got some other mainstream DJ's riders *cough Tiesto cough* Aokis list would not even compare.  Plus, we cant help but LOL at some of these items, who doesnt need an inflatable dingie that fits 2-3 people?? See the two part rider below..

Aoki took to his twitter today to publicly respond to his critics, see his response here..

Jeffrey Campbell: The Seasonless Shoe

www.loveforfashion.tumblr.com

An ode to the shoe that receives all of our paychecks.  We're not sure how we can fall in love with every single pair Jeffrey Campbell releases but time and time again it happens.  A clear plastic high heeled boot? Why not.. An entirely faux wood heel? Um, sure. A mangled heel-less platform? We can practice balancing.

Normally shoes like this would have us running for the hills but JC's have us under their spell.  Not only are they ridiculously original but they're SO comfortable.   Also, for some reason these shoes manage to defy the laws of seasons.  How a tan suede and a black leather Lita look good and can be worn through every season is beyond our fashion knowledge but we're not complaining.

all shoes above can be found at www.nastygal.com

Chan Luu on Gilt Groupe

www.fivefivefabulous.com
We never seem to be quick enough to catch these amazing Chan Luu Gilt Groupe sales, so when we saw one for this afternoon we felt it was fate. The sale starts at 12PM and lasts for a few days but be quick because the hottest wraps tend to go first.

Oh and if you're not a member of Gilt do yourself a favor and join ASAP, its an Electrolettes electronic bible.  With all the $$$ we spend on concert tickets we need all the fashion deals we can get our kandied up hands on.

Is Insomniac Responible for Two Vegas Deaths?

We would like to start of by saying that our thoughts go out to the families of the two individuals that died last week following EDC; music festivals are all about celebrating life, not putting yourself in danger.  That being said, we are not surprised the media is trying to blame Insomniac for these tragedies, in addition to claiming that they condone the use of drugs within their events.

According to the Huffington Post, twenty-two year old Emily McCaughan fell off the roof of her twenty seven story Las Vegas hotel following EDC.  Family members claim she was having paranoid delusions after taking ecstasy pills during the festival.  Maybe McCaughan did suffer through negative side effects of the illegal substance, but she voluntarily ingested them.  We all know that drugs are bad and by doing them you're putting yourself in harms way, but it's time for people to start taking responsibility for their actions instead of placing the blame on someone else.  Anyone who attended EDC this year would agree that there were massive amounts of police, (more than I saw in all of Las Vegas), drug dogs and a large medical staff in addition to the intense security check at the entrance.  The TSA should be taking lessons from Insomniac's staff, because never before have I been felt up by security to check if I was hiding illegal items in my bra.

What's even more interesting about this whole scandal is that the other individual who died following the festival was a 31 year old Florida man who friends say had been drinking prior to the incident.  Since alcohol is legal in this country, his case isn't receiving nearly as much attention and no one from his end are accusing Insomniac for hosting an "alcohol ridden" event.  So while the spokeswoman for McCaughan's family claims, "Damn it, they (drugs) are just killers every single time", maybe she should also lobby the city of Las Vegas and Insomniac to produce a "dry" festival, but for some reason we don't think this is likely...

Festival DONTS: Fluffies and Tutus

www.monstermarketplace.com
We're all for letting go at festivals and dressing how you normally wouldn't, wear kandi up to your elbows,  use body paint to turn yourself into a blue avatar, however PLEASE do not wear XXXL cleaning dusters aka fluffies on your feet. We get the look you're going for... actually.. no we don't but as much as you think your pulling off a unique punk look, trust us when we say you look like a complete DUMMY!! Not only are you dressed like the other sea of 12943 misguided raving fashion faux pas but these monstrosities are heavy and hot.  The only thing worse than a girl wearing fluffies is a girl wearing fluffies and a tutu.  If theres one time when tutus are acceptable to be worn its at Electric Forest when you're surrounded by frolicking fairies, other than that leave these chiffon messes to the ballerinas.

NEVER.

Governors Island Summer 2012

methodmagazine.com
After this weekend's successful "Super You & Me" party on Governors Island featuring Laidback Luke, Datsik, Tommy Trash, Peacetreaty and Oliver Twizt, we're extremely thankful that Made Event has decided to pack this summer with "mini-festivals" which will make the time period between present and Electric Zoo seem less infinite.  Tickets are fairly priced at thirty bucks a pop, (the events run from 4 pm till 12 am and include ferry fees), so if you're trying to switch things up from your friday night residency at Pacha in order to enjoy the summer weather, faux beach and magnificent views click the links below to secure your spot on NYC's very own electronic oasis

Sensation Innerspace : Russia

With all the hype surrounding Sensation's premiere in Brooklyn this coming fall, we couldn't help but tune in to the latest Sensation party taking place in Russia on Monday.  The live sets from headliners Axwell, Sander van Doorn, Matisse & Sadko are now available. Click the links below for free downloads.

Backwards Necklaces

http://lynchpinofnonsense.tumblr.com/page/3
With all of the backless shirts and dresses that have been so popular this year it only seems natural that we adorn our backs with some type of eye catching accessory.  Wearing a necklace backward has been a style that was first seen a few years ago when Ashley Olsen wore one to the CFDA fashion awards in 2009.

www.gemgossip.com

Not only is this reversed jewelery unique but its economical as well.  Use a necklace you already have, flip it around and change the entire look of your outfit. We feel that there is no more perfect time to bring this trend back then now, when barren backs need a little flavor.

Are We Forgetting the Purpose of Music Festivals?

filthyfriday.com
Last week during the first ever EDMBiz Conference in Las Vegas, EDC founder Pasquale Rotella announced in front of a room filled with top financial execs, industry promoters and artists that he is no longer interested in booking "big name" acts for his festivals.  An article on Billboard.biz. quotes Rotella,

"Our strategy moving forward is we don't want to book the big guys.  I don't want to be a promoter.  My passion is not selling tickets and making money.  I want to create an experience.  You don't need to book the big acts who sell out arenas"..."The DJ is important and has a job to do, but I want the budget to bring in art and production. We balance through negotiation.  They get higher fees somewhere else, but they feel our shows are special."

When question by other panel members on his controversial stance, Rotella carried on by bringing up Burning Man, a leave no trace festival which he attends every year in Nevada's Black Rock Desert.  Burning Man doesn't book any big name talent, yet it sells out year after year for it's celebration of life and all forms of bare art, i.e. sculptures, paintings and an assortment of music.  It's refreshing to hear that Rotella wants to provide his customers will an all around experience, rather than charging them hand and foot to see some of the biggest names in the business right now (who by the way were too good to show up on day three of EDC after day two was cut short due to the weather, cough cough Tiesto).   We're interested to see what Insomniac has in store for next year, as well as the years following the burst of this gigantic EDM bubble.

Sam Edelman Summer 2012 Sandals

http://www.southernprepbrunette.tumblr.com/

Sam Edelman shoes are known for their edgy style and trademark metal spikes.  As much as we love their sophisticated spikes there's only so many occasions its appropriate to wear them, plus being drunk in the summer with bare skin and metal spikes on the back of your shoes can only lead to disaster. Sam definitely got the memo that EDM is taking over the world because their recent summer sandal line is loaded with neon colors and funky prints.   Not that we can really wear these dainty things to a festival but we still love the style and colors to wear on those few days a month when we live a normal non-raging lifestyle.

Twelv Magazine Debut

Reasons to pick up Twelv Magazine:
1.  Photos of our fashion fav Kate Moss
2.  Couture dress made completely of gummy bears
3.  X-ray picture of a vibrator

Just when we thought we  had given up on magazines and could only count on reading blogs that shared our fashion/music infatuation, Twelv magazine made its debut.  This bi-annual mag represents everything an electrolette stands for. "TWELV is a Creative Movement collective for a thoughtful audience who shares the same passion for fashion, art, music and charity".  We were lucky enough to attend the release party last night and get a close look at this up and coming mag.  The special edition cover depicts fashionista Mischa Barton as the Virgin Mary holding a naked baby.  UM, how they got the usually skimpy dressed Mischa to agree to do this shot, we have NO idea but we absolutely love this covers chic edginess.  This type of avant garde theme is seen throughout the magazines images and articles and is a main reason why Twelv stands out from all the other cookie cutter fashion mags.

Nervo - You're Gonna Love Again (Extended Mix) [Release]

vertigoshtick.com
Although we like our beats dirty, sometimes it's nice to bask in a fresh progressive track. The Nervo twins  and their multi-faceted talents (songwriters/producers/DJ's/models) definitely qualify them as electrolette material.  Their new song, "You're Gonna Love Again" is the product of a collaboration with Avicii, meaning this track already has big hit written all over it.  Whether you're laying by the pool, pregaming for happy hour at Djais or sitting in the airport waiting for your flight to Vegas, "You're Gonna Love Again" is guaranteed to fuel your summer lovin' mantra.

Official EDC Las Vegas Trailer

Insomniac has just released the preview movie for EDC Vegas 2012 and we're very thankful because the 2011 trailer has been on repeat since we clicked "purchase tickets" in March.  There's not much else to say about the Electric Daisy Carnival that you don't already know, so just press play and get lost in last years memories as they prepare you for the upcoming weekend's experience of a lifetime.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that the set times will be announced in the next few days!

AfterHours.FM 6 Year Anniversary

AfterHours.FM, an online radio station which features trance and progressive artists from around the world, is wrapping up its 6 year anniversary celebration.  DJ's including Sied van Riel, Leon Bolier, Aly and Fila, Arty, Super8 and Tab, and Markus Schulz to name a few, played for 72 hours straight from May  29th - June 1st.  What could be better than a 72 hour trance marathon? We can't think of anything, but we're sure our neighbors are praying to the trance gods that it ends sometime soon; our speakers haven't stopped bumping for three days.  Thanks AfterHours.FM!
